GAME SELECTION MENU
Introduction:
-------------
The GAME SELECTION MENU is used to create, modify, select or examine game
definitions for BEST BET. BEST BET supports a wide-range of lottery games.
Each game is played according to a set of defined "rules", or game settings.
Each game definition is stored in an ASCII file with the filename suffix
of ".GAM"; for example, the Louisiana Pick 6 game definition is stored in
the file named "LAPICK6.GAM". The naming convention starts with the two
character state abbreviation (Ex: "FL" for Florida), as applicable.
BEST BET supports many of the standard, popular lottery games. It is not
possible for us to know about all lottery games, however, since new games
pop up all the time. BEST BET comes with most of the known lotto games
already defined for North America. If your particular game is not defined
or cannot be defined for some reason, please contact LOTTO SOFTWARE and
let us know which game(s) you want to support. Thank you.
The following information is required to describe a game to BEST BET:
Description: 32-character description of the game.
History File: MSDOS filename of file to contain history data;
Examples: capick6.his
pwrball.his
Allow Duplicate Balls: set to 'Y' if duplicate balls are possible. If the
lottery uses more than one machine to pick each ball,
then duplicate balls are possible.
Smallest Number: the smallest number which can be picked (0 or 1).
Largest Number: the largest number which can be picked (up to 100).
# Balls to Pick: how many balls total will be selected.
Q: What does "Create a new game definition" do ?
A: You may create a new game definition at any time. Input each of the
game definition settings. When completed entering the settings, they
are shown to you for confirmation. Enter 'Y' if the settings are
correct. Finally, you must choose a game name (up to 8 characters)
for the game definition (Example: "CAPICK6" for California Pick 6).
Once defined, you may select this new game and play it at any time.
Of course, you may want to begin by entering however much historical
game results (past drawings) as possible to give the best results in
using BEST BET.
Q: What does "Modify current game definition" do ?
A: This option enables you to change the game settings of the currently
selected game definition. Each game parameter is show to you in turn.
To skip an item without modifying it, simply press 'Enter'. To change
an item, enter the new value and then press 'Enter'. To save the
changes, confirm that you wish to "Save these changes permanently".
Q: What does "Select the Game to play" do ?
A: This function enables you to pick which game you want BEST BET to
play. It first displays a menu of the available games in alphabetical
order. Press 'Enter' to see the next page of available games. Enter
the number shown to the left of the game name and description to
switch to a different game. Once you have selected a game to play,
you are asked to confirm the new game selection. This game will
remain in effect for the duration of your current BEST BET session.
Q: What does "Show game definitions" do ?
A: Show the game setting of the currently selected game.
Upon exit from the PREFERENCES MENU you are asked "Do you wish to make
your changes permanent ?". If you want the game selection to remain
in effect from now on (for the next time you run BEST BET), then answer
'Y' to this question.
